Pen Tennyson directs this early Ealing Studios drama set in a Welsh coal mining valley. Paul Robeson stars as David Goliath, a charismatic African-American seaman who washes up in a small mining village in Wales. There, he finds work alongside the miners down the pit, and his magnificent singing voice attracts the attention of local choir director Dick Parry (Simon Lack), who has ambitions of winning the national choir contest on the strength of Goliath's talent. However, a mining disaster puts both of these occupations on hold, and Goliath rouses a group of activists to march to London in the hope of reopening the mine in time to serve the nation's wartime needs.
Anthony Asquith directs this wartime propaganda drama. When his actress wife Irena (Diana Wynyard) moves to Berlin to further her career, throat specialist Dr Karl Roder (Clive Brook) decides to accompany her, although he is vehemently opposed to the newly-elected Nazi regime. There he meets Hans Glaser (Derek Farr), a young engineer whose girlfriend has been incarcerated in a concentration camp. Together, they set up their own broadcasting service, Freedom Radio, to denounce the Nazi movement.

The locals seem friendly enough and the wealthy Dr. Ravna (Noel Willman) even invites the couple for dinner at his chateau. However, once trapped in Ravna's house the newlyweds swiftly find themselves regretting the invitation as they become the subject of increasingly bizarre and threatening behaviour...
A luckless choirmaster unwittingly causes local rivalries to bubble to the surface when he returns home to his Welsh roots. Accepting the post of choirmaster in the village where he grew up, Geraint Llewellyn (Clifford Evans) returns from London, and sets about planning the choir's latest production, Handel's 'Messiah'. But when it comes to choosing the soloist, Geraint's choice of Mrs. Davies (Betty Cooper) over the seasoned talents of resident leading lady Mrs Lloyd (Rachel Thomas) goes down like a lead balloon, instigating a split not only between the respective families, but between the village itself.
